Standing out is important for any bride and having all the guests catch their breath when she walks down the aisle is even more important. The design of wedding gowns has evolved throughout the years, from the restrictive corset, voluminous silhouettes, dramatic trains and exaggerated puffy sleeves to 2019, where brides are going for the less is more look.

Often made from mesh and lace, a naked wedding dress is worn by a bride who wants to make a bold statement, and let it be known that she oozes confidence.

According to Lauren Potter owner of bridal store, Innovine, a bride would go for the nude dress for a formal, sophisticated and classy wedding.

Innovine, a home-based wedding studio situated in Durbanville, Cape Town, specialises in selling nearly-new, gently used and second hand wedding dresses & bridal gowns from local and international designer labels like Pronovias and Bride & Co.

“When choosing a wedding dress, keep in mind the venue as your dress needs to fit in with it,” Lauren says. More brides are following the naked wedding dress trend and many of Lauren’s clients go for the nude dress, a style that is often seen worn by celebrities and social media influencers.

A-line dress - An A-line wedding dress is characterised by the silhouette of the skirt which is fitted at the hips and gradually flares out from the natural waistline of the bodice towards the hem. This is for a bride who wants to show off her curves.

Mermaid dress - A mermaid dress is a style that fits closely to the body through the torso and hips, then fishtails out in a flare to the floor. This style is mostly chosen by a bride who wants to feel like a princess on her special day.
